When did you last have a dental exam or teeth cleaning appointment? According to the CDC, around 64% of adults in the U.S. had one of either dental services in 2022. The ones that didn't might not have a clear understanding of what a dentist does. We're here to help educate them, so read on to learn about three types of services to expect from dentists.

1. General Dentistry

When you receive this kind of dental service, you'll see a dentist who does routine dental cleanings, fills cavities, performs tooth extractions, and can also tell you about the best ways to prevent gum disease. Their job is to do the typical day-to-day dental work. There are others that specialize in other types of dentistry.

2. Cosmetic Dentistry

Dentists who do this type of dentistry want to ensure you have a beautiful smile. They'll do things like whiten your teeth, provide veneers, offer aligners, place dental crowns, and more. While Invisalign is more orthodontic, some cosmetic dentists do it too. Dental bonding is another service that they offer.

3. Restorative Dentistry

When you see a restorative
dentist , you have damaged or missing teeth. There are a variety of things they can do to fix that, including dental implants. Alternatively, they may give you partial or full dentures. It's important that any gap gets filled, because the remaining teeth may shift, which can make talking and eating difficult.

Many dentists see patients who are either young or old, which means that they can see entire families. This is great, since watching their patients grow into teens and then adults themselves allows them to offer unique, customized dental care. As time goes on, they may even treat the children that the adult children have. It's a wonderful cycle, and they love making sure they all have healthy teeth and gums. That's what makes it worth it.
